Attend Making Connections: A Welcome Day for Accepted Students on the first Saturday in April. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your family to meet faculty, staff, and current students.

Important: First you have to complete Skills Assessment BEFORE you can attend Orientation. At Orientation you will work with an academic adviser to register for classes, so sign up for a Skills Assessment Session early. Sign up for assessment here .

Apply for financial aid. The priority deadline for 2006-07 is March 1, 2007, but you can still apply for financial aid if you have not already done so. Go to www.fafsa.com and get started.

Search for potential scholarships using free online search services (such as fastweb.com and wiredscholar.com). You can also search the University scholarship site.

Come to one of the Freshman Orientation Days held over the summer. (Be sure to go to assessment first!) Reserve your spot at orientation by calling 617.287.7950 or email student.life@umb.edu.

Return your immunization records to Health Services.

Under Massachusetts' law, all students must participate in the university's student health insurance plan unless you have comparable coverage off campus. You will be automatically billed for the insurance on your University bill and must complete a Health Insurance Waiver Card with the appropriate information to have that charge waived. Waivers must be completed every fall semester for fall year attending students and spring semester for spring only students.

Be in the loop! After you receive your UMass Boston I.D., you can go to Customer Service Center and get your username and password for your free, life-long email account. The Customer Service Center is located on the 2nd floor of the Quinn Administration Building and is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Upon graduation, have your high school guidance department send an official final transcript to UMass Boston, Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Buy your text books. Books are usually available two-three weeks before classes begin. (Tips- Don't write in them until you have attended classes in case the book has changes, know your professor's full name, save your receipt and note the return deadline date on your calendar).

If you don't currently have housing close to campus let our Student Housing Service help you find a place to live this fall! Visit them online here for housing referral services, roommate referral and matching, house and apartment rental listings, including sublets, and special rates and services at Harbor Point apartment complete, adjacent to the campus.

Make plans for transportation to campus (commuter rail, MBTA, drive, car pool, etc.).

Don't forget to check the academic calendar for the first day of class. See you then!
