The Carol Hardy-Fanta Fund for Internships for Women in Public Service is an annual award made to up to two students in the university’s Graduate Program for Women in Politics & Public Policy who foster a greater understanding of the intersectionality of gender, race, ethnicity in politics and public policy within a public service setting. The student will receive a monetary award to work for up to nine months in a state or local government office or organization working on policy issues of concern to women who represent the diversity of women in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Students will perform the internship while enrolled in a regular class schedule. This is a prestigious award based on the overall merit of the student.

It also assists with building local capacity to address the horrendous consequences of the various forms of disaster which millions of people face every year, everywhere. The Center engages in innovative research on various disaster-related topics with a focus on vulnerable populations (disabled people, the elderly, children, women, the poor, minorities, etc.)

The Friends of Nantucket Field Station support the University of Massachusetts Boston's Nantucket Field Station (NFS), which includes a 107-acre field site with laboratory facilities, residence space, and maintenance shop, and offices on Nantucket Harbor in the Quaise portion of the island. The island of Nantucket covers approximately 50 square miles, and although it is isolated geographically, it is only 26 miles south of Cape Cod, MA. Established in 1963, the station is a member of the Organization of Biological Field Stations. The facility also includes a six-unit apartment complex near the midtown part of Nantucket called Gouin Village.

The Veterans History Project Student Edition provides students, teachers, mentors and afterschool programs with shared, structured opportunities to conduct background research, prepare interview questions, conduct interviews, and produce creative and interactive oral history projects and documentaries.
Students are encouraged to share related experiences with veterans that have been inspired by war films and documentaries, interviews with veterans, and literature and military history. The project's goal is to have students identify and interview a war veteran and submit a video which they create to the Library of Congress. There it will exist as a permanent national history resource. Videos created will also be uploaded to the Student Edition site.

The William Joiner Center provides educational and other services to veterans, conducts research, and makes policy recommendations on issues relating to veterans, encourages teaching and scholarship on the Vietnam War, and encourages open dialogue on the social consequences of all wars. Responding to wars in the 21st century, the Joiner Center has begun to focus on the consequences of the Global War on Terrorism, particularly as manifested in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
