Teachers College Made So Much Possible

"Attending Teachers College of the City of Boston in the 1940's made my whole world different. I was able to have a career as a teacher, an occupation I had always wanted, and not work at a job in some lesser capacity, which was the norm of those times.

Education for Service drawingI've always realized that Teachers College made so much possible, including a retirement pension and financial security, both of which have considerably lessened concerns of living. I sincerely felt that I had an obligation to do something in return, and one of those something was a charitable gift annuity for UMass Boston."

There are four basic benefits to a charitable gift annuity. These benefits include support for a worthwhile cause (the university), fixed quarterly payments at a high rate of interest for life, a charitable income-tax deduction, and , finally, reduced probate and estate taxes. "Naturally, all of these benefits should be analyzed by a competent accountant for each individual," says Conway. "But they worked for me."

"Yes, I am glad to receive that quarterly payment and pleased that I am able in some small way to assist the college -- now a major university -- that made possible such a satisfying career for me. "
