Policies

Required Forms All required forms must be completed and signed in ink by the parent/guardian prior to any child participating in our programs. Children who arrive without completed forms will not be allowed to participate.

Proper Footwear Sneakers are required at all times to participate in our programs. Childern without proper footwear will not be allowed to participate in the day's activities.

Treadmills & Arc Trainers Treadmills & Arc Trainers can be used only with an instructor's permission. They must be used properly at all times or children will not be allowed to use them at all. On treadmills, speed cannot go above 5.0, on arc trainers resistance cannot go above 15.

Food & Drinks Food and drinks, with the exception of water, are prohibited in the center.

Emergency Procedures GoKids Boston staff is trained in CPR/AED and First Aid. Our written Emergency Response Procedures are at the Front Desk and available for review upon request. In case of accidental injury, we will make an immediate attempt to contact a parent or guardian. If we cannot reach you, we may call the Medical Advisor and/or the child’s physician. If an accident warrants further assistance University Campus Police and, if necessary, EMS will be called. Once Campus Police and/or EMS arrive they will make all medical decisions regarding the child, including transport to the hospital, until a parent/guardian can be contacted. In the best interest of the child and the group, we ask that even mildly sick children not come to GoKids Boston. We reserve the right to require a doctor's note before a child can return to the center.

Children cannot come with:

Children can return if:

  • A temperature of 100+ degrees
  • Vomiting or Diarrhea
  • Any suspicious rash
  • Significant cold or viral infection involving severe head congestion or sore throat
  • Any contagious illness
  • Any open or oozing sores or bacterial infections
  • Symptom free for 24 hours (fever, diarrhea, vomiting
  • If prescribed an antibiotic, has taken it for 24 hours
  • No longer has a serious cold, but has minor nasal drip.
  • Physician’s note provided following treatment of communicable disease (strep throat, chicken pox, etc).

 

Transportation GoKids Boston is not responsible for transportation of children to or from GoKids Boston. Children may arrive and depart with their after school program using transportation provided by that organization, with their parent or guardian, on their own using public transportation, or via some other means, but GoKids Boston is not responsible for children outside the Center and/or its programs.

Campus Closings GoKids Boston will be closed, unless otherwise specified, whenever the University is closed. Weather related closing may be for the entire day, “morning classes only” (University/GoKids opens at 10:00am), or “No evening classes” (University/GoKids closes at 4:00pm, all after-school programs will be cancelled for the day) Announcements will be available at the UMass Boston website, on local television and radio stations and the main campus switchboard (617)287-5000

Behaviour Central to our mission at GoKids Boston is providing an environment where all kids are included, accepted and respected.  Poor behavior and/or disregard for the rules of the center will not be tolerated. Disciplinary action may include warnings (verbal and/or written) and expulsion from the program. If a child cannot follow directions, is repeatedly unable to participate with the group and is consistently distracting other participants, we reserve the right to remove that child from the program.

Fighting/Foul Language  We have a zero tolerance policy regarding fighting and foul language. Any participant engaging in these activities may be permanently terminated from the program with no refunds given.

Valuables/Thefts Please do not allow children to bring valuables to the Center. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items. We do have limited numbers of small lockers that can be used daily. Keys must be signed out at the front desk. Incident reports are available at the front desk to report lost or stolen items.
