Insurance, Billing and Fees
UMass Boston Student Health Fee
The mandatory student health fee is included in the Combined Mandatory Fees which are charged on a per-credit basis. This fee funds a variety of programs offered by University Health Services, including UHS Health Education and Wellness programs and activities and services available through the UHS Counseling Center.
Medical Insurance and Billing
UHS General Medicine currently accepts and can bill a variety of commercial health insurance plans. The amount that you pay for services provided depends upon the schedule of deductibles, coinsurance and copayments associated with your health insurance plan. It is important that you understand the coverage provided by your health insurance plan. Please bring your insurance card with you when you come to UHS. Copayments are due at the time that services are provided.
Referrals
Patients insured by a health maintenance organization or point-of-service plan (POP)which requires primary care provider (PCP) referrals must obtain one for care at UHS.

Aetna Student Health is the current underwriter for the University of Massachusetts Boston SHP. If you have the Aetna SHP the $100 plan year deductible is WAIVED when you obtain your care at UHS.
