How to Waive the Student Health Plan (SHP)

To ‘waive’ the student health insurance plan, the student must submit an online waiver to the bursars office and certify that he or she has alternative coverage, the name of the entity offering the plan, the policy number or member identification number, the name of the subscriber or primary enrollee and the relationship of that person to the student, and a statement that the coverage is comparable to the coverage required under a SHP plan. Students can access the waiver online through the WISER system.
You cannot waive the Student Health Insurance Plan if you are covered by any of the following:
- Commonwealth Care
- Medicare
- Insurance Plans that do not meet requirements of SHP
