You may not know that that our capacity to offer high-quality, accessible education depends increasingly on private as much as public support. Only 37% of UMass Boston’s revenue comes from the state. The UMass Boston Fund provides the margin of difference to the total cost of a high quality, affordable education for the university's students.
We depend on you. Your unrestricted support — in any amount, and as many times a year as possible —
brings vitality, richness, and hope to our campus through:

offering financial aid that provides the margin of difference to make college education attainable;
- recruiting, developing and retaining world-class faculty who are equally devoted to research and teaching;

embracing new technologies that connect our community and extend the university's resources to people and places far beyond Boston, and

inspiring community partnerships that revitalize neighborhoods and offer tools to influence health, education, and public policy.
Or, perhaps you believe deeply in the work of one of UMass Boston's seven colleges, a special area of interdisciplinary research, the Athletics Program, or one or more of our over 30 Centers and Institutes. Your gift to the UMass Boston Fund may be designated to these purposes as well.
Alumni Participation Matters
When considering making large gifts, corporations, foundations and other donors gauge the quality and strength of an organization by its alumni participation in the UMass Boston Fund. Furthermore, college rankings like the U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges also consider these rates when ranking institutions. When UMass Boston alumni support us, they help improve our university’s public stature and build a stronger foundation for our future.
Every gift brings our participation rate higher. But even more important, whether you are a student, alumnus, faculty or staff member, parent or family member, or friend, investment in the UMass Boston Fund brings you to the heart of our urban mission, and your gifts energize, as Chancellor Keith Motley says, this great "research university, with a teaching soul."
UMass Boston faculty and staff often make their yearly gifts to the UMass Boston Fund manageable by contributing through payroll deduction. We encourage you to make your giving an onging part of your life by joining our recurring gift program. Our online gift form gives this option by selecting "yes" for making a monthly gift.
