Chancellor Motley: Supporting Haiti and Our Community

As we begin the spring semester, our hearts and minds continue to be focused on the crisis in Haiti.  I am pleased to report that our students in Haiti at the time of the earthquake are physically unhurt.  The Division of Students Affairs immediately reached out to our students from Haiti to inquire about their safety. As far as we know, none of our faculty or staff members were in Haiti at that time

UMass Boston’s Venture Development Center Announces New Bio-Science Partner

The University of Massachusetts Boston today announced that South Easton-based Pressure BioSciences Inc., (PBI) a developer of bench-top sample preparation instruments, has moved its research and development operations to the university’s Venture Development Center. PBI develops and markets pressure cycling technology that enables safe, rapid, and reproducible extraction of proteins, DNA, RNA, and small molecules from biological samples for biochemical analysis.

We are an institution with strong ties to Haiti and the Haitian community in Boston. Haitians and Haitian Americans are among our students, faculty, staff, and dear friends. Today, our thoughts and prayers are with these people and those most affected by this tragedy.
