Many collegiate athletes reach the pinnacle of their sporting careers
towards the end of their four-year college experience. With each new
season, these athletes show more and more growth both on and off the
field until they’ve reached their full athletic potential. For UMass
Boston’s Men’s Soccer player Reyn Johnson (Mangilao, Guam), that high point started before he was even a teenager and he isn’t planning on coming down any time soon.

In April 2009, representatives of four divided cities gathered at UMass
Boston to tentatively acknowledge each other and to begin to explore
the conflicts they share based on race, ethnicity, religion, politics,
and more. Something happened that brought the separate sides of these
separate cities together. That same something found expression in the
wreaths Padraig O’Malley laid at the sites of two recent bombings in
Kirkuk province, which took the lives of over 100 people.

This year it was even better – we welcomed a record number of students, whose diversity in ethnicity, age, economic status, and home towns enriches the classrooms and campus life at UMass Boston.

Hi, this is Patrick Day, vice chancellor
of student affairs. I wanted to take a couple of moments today to update the
university community on what the institution is doing in response to the H1N1 virus,
or Swine Flu virus, outbreak. The
institution has taken the approach of concern as well as preparation. As such,
the university is receiving daily updates from the World Health Organization,
the Centers for Disease Control, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health,
as well as the Boston Department of Public Health. In addition, the institution is updating
emergency response protocols, as well as contingency plans.
