Introduction

Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) in conjunction with the other UMass campuses have reached an agreement for the distribution of Adobe’s Creative Suite Design Premium to the campus community. The version we are distributing is CS 5.5. The following application are included:

Photoshop
InDesign
Illustrator
Flash Professional & Catalyst
Dreamweaver (will not work with UMB web site)
Fireworks
Acrobat Professional X

Distribution & Cost of Software

This site license allows our faculty and staff to install this suite of products on their university owned computer. Our contract covers all lab computers as well. The software is available for Windows and Mac. Please specify which version you want when requesting the software. There will be a nominal cost associated with installing this software — $15 per license (see below).

Distribution

Because of the high volume of requests for Adobe discs, we have made the software available on the University's APPS server for installation. This options requires the installation to take place on the University campus.

Following are the basic instructions. When installing, you will need the license code for the software, which you can obtain from the IT Service Desk for $15 per installation (see "Cost," below). If you don’t have the code, you can install the software as a trial and enter the code later.

Windows: Right click on the desktop and select “New > Shortcut.” Type \\APPS for the location and click “Next.” (If prompted, enter your UMB Network ID -- the part before the @ sign in your email address -- and password.) Type a name for the shortcut (we suggest “Apps Server”) and click “Finish.” Double click the shortcut, double click “DistApps,” double click “Adobe Creative Suite,” double click "Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium-Windows," and double click "Set-up.exe” to begin installation.

Macintosh: In the Finder, go to the “Go” menu and select “Connect to Server.” Type smb://APPS and click “Connect.” Enter your UMB Network ID (The part before the @ sign in your email address) and password and click “Connect.” Click “DistApps” and click “OK.” In the DistApps window, double click “Adobe Creative Suite” and then "Adobe CS5.5 Design Premium-Mac." Double click the DesignPremium_CS5_5_LS1.dmg file to mount the disk image on your desktop. When the disk image mounts, double click Adobe CS5_5 Design Premium to begin installation.

Alternatively you may request a set of discs to borrow to install this software. As with other software requests, send a message to software@umb.edu specifying the exact software you would like to borrow. Please note that there will be a delay in fulfilling requests for physical discs for the Adobe Creative Suite.

Cost

Because of the high cost of this software, we are charging users $15 per installation. The retail price for Adobe Creative Suite 5 is well over $1,500; with educational discount an individual license costs about $600. There will be a $15.00 renewal fee each January.

1. The cost for the entire CS5.5 suite with Acrobat X - $15 per license
2. If you wish to install CS5.5 in a lab, the cost is $15 per seat

Payment may be made via Speedtype or check. Checks should be made out to the "Computer Trust Fund."
