Changing View on All Folders

To change the default view for all your folders, do the following:

  • Optional Step: Only do this first step if you are trying to resolve a problem or get a fresh start with all your views. This command will clear out any underlying problems with your views and put them back to how they were when Outlook was first installed
    • Start Outlook by going to the Start Menu, click on Run.
    • Type “outlook /cleanviews” in the Run window or a CMD window.
    • Click OK.

Once Outlook is open, do the following steps

  • Select the Inbox, on the left.
  • Go to View; Arrange By; Current View; Define Views
  • Select Messages (or IMAP Messages) and press Modify button
  • Make whatever changes you'd like now....
  • Press OK in the Customize View: Messages/IMAP Messages window
  • Select a different view, any other view, in the list, and then press Apply View
  • Go back to View; Arrange By; Current View and select Messages/IMAP Messages

This will change your Messages/IMAP Messages view, which is the default for most or all folders.
