Adaptive Computer Labs Procedures
Student Referrals
The procedure for a new student to use the Adaptive Computing Lab is for the student to contact any staff member of the Lillian Semper Ross Center for Disability Services (Ross Center, Campus Center, 2nd. Fl., Rm. 2010, 617-287-7430 TTY: 617-287-7436), or the Veterans Upward Bound Program (McCormack, third floor, room 704, 617-287-5870) and request a referral to the Lab.
After a student is referred to the Lab they are required to make an appointment with the Adaptive Computing Lab Coordinator for initial screening. At this first meeting the following topics are covered: Administer the Intake Interview to determine the computing goals and the adaptive computing technology needs of the student. Discuss the operation of the ACL including Lab hours of operation, the role of consultants and future use. Student may request training for the adaptive software.
After the initial visit, the student is free to use the facility and to continue their training if applicable.
Faculty Support
The Lab is available for class tours and presentations. Contact the ACL Coordinator to schedule an appointment.
Exam Accommodation
The Adaptive Computing Lab is available to provide accommodations for exams for students with disabilities using specialized adaptive hardware and software. This process is coordinated through the Ross Center for those students with documented disabilities who require testing accommodations. Following an individual determination of need, the Ross Center contacts the Professor and ACL Coordinator scheduling time for taking the exam/test. During the implementation of testing accommodations, all university policies will be followed.
Any questions concerning the Adaptive Computing Lab should be directed to Tikeon Thomas at 617-287-5243.
