Contribute Policy
Below is the policy that should be followed when using Contribute (or any other web design or publishing application). By following this policy, your website content and presentation will best represent your department and University of Massachusetts Boston.
Please remember that all academic information must be approved by academic governance. You are responsible for the accuracy of your content. Web pages that do not comply with these policy guidelines may be modified or removed from the university website.
- When creating a brand new site, please use the new UMass Boston template.
- Use the accompanying style sheet to format your pages. Do not add fonts, font sizes or colors that are not set in the style sheet.
- Keep images at 72 dpi and when possible, at 64KB. See file optimization details.
- File names and folders must be all lowercase with no spaces in between words (use_underscores) and keep file and folder names as short as possible. See naming files for details.
- Link faculty and staff names to their Web sites or to their page within the UMass Boston faculty & staff directory. (www.faculty.umb.edu)
- Use the UMass calendar request form http://site.www.umb.edu/spacerequest/
to schedule events held by your college, department, or program. - Please do not replicate information that is currently on the UMass Boston site, instead link to these areas of the site. (examples include; information about admissions or the writing proficiency exam)
- Do not publish any content on a Web site that has not been approved by appropriate personnel or that is incomplete.
Each department/division should know the Contribute editor assigned to their website. If or when that person leaves, a new editor should be assigned and webservices should be notified of their replacement. An editor cannot receive a Contribute "key" until they have a valid UMass email account.
Please note: University licensed versions of Contribute can only be installed on university based computers and within the department to which they are assigned. Laptops must have a UMB asset number and tag assigned to it.
