Student Web Policy
This policy applied to individual student Web pages and student club sites located on www.students.umb.edu. Web Services does not provide or assist with Web design for student sites.
Individual Student Pages
Faculty members may request Web space for their students for class purposes. The faculty member is responsible for regulating student Web sites and adhering to all UMass Boston Web policies and guidelines.
Upon request from a faculty member students will be given 50MB of Web space to use for classroom activities only. Students may keep their Web space and URL for 2 semesters, unless another time period is approved by a faculty member (note: time period may not exceed 10 semesters).
Student Club Pages
In order to be given Web space, your club/association must be a recognized student organization (RSO). Recognition of student clubs is determined by the Office of Student Life. Upon request from the Office of Student Life, student clubs will be given 75MB of Web space for club use only. If a student organization loses its RSO status, the associated Web site will be removed.
Standards
Since the student server is part of UMass Boston, it is necessary that Web pages on the machine conform to University standards. The rules and guidelines for students are presented below.
All student Web pages must conform to the following standards:
- No material that is unlawful, obscene, or inappropriate.
- No commercial material.
- No defamatory comments.
- No material that infringes upon copyright law.
- No behavior that impedes normal use of network, internet, or e-mail resources.
- No using university resources in violation of federal, state, or local law.
- No presenting a misleading or false electronic identity.
