Getting Started

How do I login to Blackboard?
Visit the login page at http://boston.umassonline.net. All active faculty and students login to Blackboard with their UMass Boston email account information. To obtain your personal UMB email address information, login to your WISER account and access your Personal Portfolio. All students who are registered in online only courses or web enhanced courses will receive an email notification when they are given access to Blackboard via their UMB Student Email account mailbox. All UMass students have an email account.

I forgot my email account password. How do I reset my password?
Visit the Password Reset for students page at https://mpweb.umb.edu/passwordreset.php and enter the information requested. Be sure to follow the password format guidelines.

I am still unable to reset my password. What should I do?
Contact the IT Service Desk if you are unable to login to Blackboard at 617-287-5220 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Does Blackboard work in all labs on campus?
All the labs on campus support Blackboard.

Can I connect to my Blackboard course from home?
If you have a computer and an internet connection at home, you can access your course materials from home. After logging info your account, click on the Browser Check link in the upper right corner of your My UMassonline page to be sure you are using a supported browser and that it is set up correctly.

Do I need any special software to use Blackboard?
You will need to install Java if it is not already installed on your machine. Use the following instructions to check if you have Java running on your machine and to install to the software: Installing the Correct Java for Blackboard

Can I connect to Library databases from home?
Students enrolled in a UMass Boston online course are eligible to receive a barcode for access to Healey Library resources located at http://www.lib.umb.edu. UMB library is a rich and valuable academic online resource which will allow you to do most of your research work off-campus. To access most of the resources you will need your barcode number found on the reverse of your student id card.

If you don't have a student ID card or are unable to read the bar code number you can send an e-mail request to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Your request should include your first and last name, student ID number, course name and class number and semester. You will receive the address of the library web site. Barcode access terminates at the end of the semester. (Note: This service is available Monday - Friday 9 - 5 PM).
