New TWT Workshops
The Learning Management System Team is initiating 2 new workshops this semester. A schedule of all LMS workshops and a registration form are available at http://itc.umb.edu/twt
1. LMS My Way- Faculty Perspectives on eLearning
Whereas most of our workshops depend on lecture and demonstration by a trainer, the new workshop LMS My Way: Faculty Perspectives on eLearning is designed to have faculty as primary presenters, showing their use of some particular aspect of Vista 4 to other faculty followed by questions and discussion. The focus of the workshop will not be on basic instructions about how some aspect of Vista 4 works, but on how it functions pedagogically in relation to students and subject matter in a specific course. This interaction between practitioner and practitioner we feel will be another approach to providing Vista 4 training that will be of significant value.
This semester’s workshop will focus on the discussion tool and its function in providing online communication and allowing students an active involvement in the course. The three faculty presenters will offer different perspectives on the discussion tool. Robert Weiner will present his use of the discussion tool as a means for students to present their own research and to comment on and evaluate the projects of others, and how he handles participation in discussions as part of the evaluation of student’s overall performance. Gonzalo Bacigalupe will discuss his use of asynchronous and synchronous communication tools. Ellie Kutz will discuss her experiences using the threaded discussion for discussion of each week’s language concepts from readings, the blog for weekly discussion of literature, the journal for students’ reporting on their own ongoing research and using a wiki to summarize key points from the discussions.
This workshop is being offered this semester on April 23 between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM in the Healey Library/LL/Presentation Room 2. Light refreshments will be available.
2. Preparing Content for Use Online
If you have put content online only to have it display differently than you anticipated or your students can't download or open the content, then this workshop will help you properly prepare your materials for online use. This workshop will demonstrate best practices and techniques for preparing text, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, images, audio, and video content for use on the web.
We hope you can join us for one of the new workshops or any of our regularly scheduled workshops. Please register at http://itc.umb.edu/twt or email to webctreg@umb.edu For more information about the learning management system at UMB go to http://www.umb.edu/it/tech/lms/
