Adding a Link
A “hyperlink” or “link” on a webpage connects the linked item that is linked to another webpage, to a file, or to an email address. It is the links that enable the site visitor to navigate the website. We recommend adding pages first [see Adding a Webpage) and then linking afterwards. In Contribute, you can link to:
- an existing webpage - Web Services recommends this method
- a draft page or recently-created pages
- an email address
- a file on your computer
- removing a link
Add a Link to an Existing Webpage (internal or external link)
To add a link to an existing webpage—whether the page is from UMass Boston website or from another source:
Internal Link
- click the Edit button
- select/highlight the text (or image) that you want to use as a link
- click the Link button in the toolbar and select Browse to Page -> CHOOSE page on the dialog box
- either type in the webpage URL in the Web Address field, or click the Browse button and find the page you want to link to.
- click OK
- click Publish and test the link on your webpage

Add a Link to a Draft or Recently-Published Page
To link to a draft or a recently publish page, follow the first three steps above, select the Drafts and Recent Pages option and select the correct page from the dialog box. Click OK and then click Publish. Test the link.

Add a Link to an Email Address
To link to an email address follow the first three steps above, click the E-Mail Address option and enter the email address in the blank on the pop-up form. Click OK and then click Publish. Test the link.

Add a Link to a File on Your Computer (This is NOT recommended)
To link to and upload a file that is located on your computer (ex.: a PDF or Word doc), follow the first three steps above, select File on My Computer, click the Browse button, and navigate to your file. Once you have selected the file, click OK and then click Publish. Contribute automatically uploads the selected file to a directory called documents on the web server. If the documents directory does not exist, Contribute automatically creates one and then places the file within it. Test the link.

Removing a link
To remove a link, select the link and RIGHT CLICK (PC mouse) or OPTION CLICK (on a Mac), then choose "Remove Link" from the contextual drop down menu.
