Jon Ceander Mitchell is a conductor of the Chamber Orchestra at the University of Massachusetts Boston where he is Professor of Music and Coordinator of Music Education. He is also conductor of the Boston Neo-politan Chamber Orchestra. Before his 1992 arrival at UMass Boston, he held full-time music faculty positions at The University of Georgia, Carnegie Mellon University, and Hanover College. He was also conductor of the North Pittsburgh Civic Symphony during that time. In recent years he has done a significant amount of international guest conducting, with orchestras in Bulgaria, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, the Keweenaw Symphony (Michigan), Metropolitan Wind Symphony (Boston), Longy Chamber Orchestra, and the Belmont Orchestra. He has over 70 publications.
