Roommate Agreements
Roommate conflicts are not as uncommon as you might think. By signing a lease with someone, you’re signing a contract to live with another person and share in certain responsibilities. If there is a conflict, it’s not always easy to break a lease and find a new place to live. By having conversations with your roommate(s) before moving in and filling out a Roommate Agreement, you can head off a lot of problems before they start. Be sure to discuss everything in the Sample Roommate Agreement not only before you move in together, but re-evaluate the agreement throughout the term of your lease. You can download a copy of the Sample Roommate Agreement here.
While our office does assist with Roommate Mediations, we encourage students to be proactive in filling out a roommate agreement before moving in together. If you would like any assistance from our office, please do not hesitate to email us at osh@umb.edu.
