Project Serve
This program engages UMass Boston students and community organizations in a variety of civic engagement activities in order to create positive change in Massachusetts. There are many ways to get involved in this program ranging from being a leader, coordinator, or a participant in our projects.
Leadership Team
Partnership Coordinator
- Advise university volunteers at a specific community based organization(CBO)
- Serve as the liaison between the ProjectServe organization and a CBO
- Coordinate events or projects between the university and the CBO
- Recruit volunteers for a designated CBO
- Work with program staff to assure appropriate tracking of all volunteer hours
- There are a total of four of these positions:
- Strong Women Strong Girls Co-Chapter Director- Volunteer with a CBO that creates a mentoring pipeline for 3rd-5th grade girls, college women and professional women.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters Coordinator- Recruit students to volunteer and become Big Brothers and Big Sisters with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay.
- Tutoring Partnerships Coordinator – Oversee multiple tutoring programs at local schools focusing on the educational development of students.
Days of Service Co-Coordinator
- Communicate with community organizations to develop service projects for the days of service
- Coordinate the logistics of each day of service
- Recruit volunteers to assist in the coordination of all large-scale service days
- Work with program staff to assure appropriate tracking of all volunteer hours
- Recruit additional site leaders for the days of service
Monthly Service Coordinator
- Coordinate monthly service opportunities each month of the semesters in a variety of focus areas.
- Communicate with community organizations to develop service projects for the days of service
- Work with program staff to assure appropriate tracking of all volunteer hours
- Recruit volunteers for each monthly project
Operations Coordinator
- Work with members to assure appropriate tracking of volunteer hours
- Coordinate bi-annual volunteer fairs
- Facilitate assessment and evaluation of all projects and programs
- Be a face for the organization to engage volunteers and donors
Recruiting and Public Relations Coordinator
- Utilize social media outlets to increase awareness and impact of ProjectServe
- Communicate with university resources to generate publicity for all ProjectServe efforts and activities
- Support ProjectServe members in generating engagement and participation in programs and projects
Requirements and Important Dates
Requirements for all positions are as follows:
- Have at least a 2.5 Cumulative GPA
- Be enrolled as a degree-seeking student for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014
- Complete application along with short answer questions
- Submit at least one recommendation letter from a UMass Boston employee (faculty or staff)
- All eligible candidates must participate in an interview
- Attend all regularly scheduled projectserve meetings and trainings
- Volunteer for at least one monthly service project each semester
- Serve as a Site Leader at each Day of Service
- Participate in an retreat in August 2013
