UMass Boston Soccer Player to Compete in 2013 East Asian Cup
Midfielder Reyn Johnson to Represent His Native Guam in International Competition
Reyn Johnson, a senior exercise and health sciences major at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a midfielder on the men’s soccer team, will represent his native Guam in the 2013 East Asian Cup.
Guam defeated both the Northern Mariana Islands and Macau last month to advance to the semifinal round, which will be played December 5-9 in Hong Kong. Johnson first played for Guam in a “friendly” match against the Philippines on June 12.
Johnson, going into his fourth year of UMass Boston soccer, said he looks forward to using what he’s learned as a member of the Guam national team when he returns to the Beacons.
“Coming back to UMass Boston, I have high hopes and expectations for our team. Many of us have been playing together for three years now. I believe that we are more than capable of winning the Little East Championship this year,” Johnson said.
“I am very excited for Reyn and I think this will be a great opportunity for him,” said Beacons coach Myles Berry.
The Beacons begin their 2012 season against Suffolk University on September 4 at 3:30 p.m. on the Clark Athletic Center Field.
