Independent Study
Undergraduates and graduate students from around the world conduct research at the UMass Boston Nantucket Field Station. Topics include everything from the historical architecture of African Americans living on Nantucket in the 19th and 20th centuries, to the genetic diversity of gray seals (Halichoerus grypus) and everything in between.
To conduct work on island and use the lab and housing options available through the Nantucket Research Institute and the Nantucket Field Station, email Sarah Oktay and describe your project or area of expertise. Each year the Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative gives small grants for independent study.
