Prof. Receives Young Investigator's Award Prof. Paul Nestor of the psychology department has received a Young Investigator Award of $58,258 from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression for a research grant titled "Violence, Crime and Mental Illness: A Typology."
The project will identify risk factors for criminal violence in persons with mental illness. The records of over 300 inpatients charged with felonies from Bridgewater State Hospital will be examined. Findings will be used to develop treatment and prevention models for criminally involved persons with mental illness.
Working with Nestor are Sare Akdag, clinical psychology Ph.D. student, and two undergraduate psychology majors, Jim Taggart and Wenni Wang.
