Chancellor David MacKenzie commended the new inductees, and praised the Golden Key Society for the tremendous amount of involvement in community service of its members. Im glad to see that volunteering has made a comeback, said MacKenzie. The most rewarding experiences come from doing something for your community that you wouldnt ordinarily have a chance to do.Chancellor MacKenzie noted that membership in Golden Key has reached an all-time high, and he commended the members for their involvement in making the 2000 Presidential Debate at UMass Boston possible. The ceremonys keynote address was delivered by UMass Boston graduate and Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, who also was inducted into Golden Key as one of five honorary members. I would have never been inducted when I was a student, quipped Menino, who went on to praise the new inductees for their leadership, volunteerism, and high level of academic success. You do so much for the community, for the city of Boston, and for the country. UMass Boston grads have made a difference to the City of Boston. Other honorary members included Ross Center Assistant Director Mary Amirhosseini, Accounting and Finance Professor Thomas Hogan, Student Life Director Joyce Morgan, and Earth and Geographic Sciences Professor Zong Guo Xia.
