CEO Appointed for UMass Online |

by Leigh DuPuyAs UMass Online was unveiled on February 7, Jack Wilson, a national distance learning innovator, began his work as its new CEO. Appointed by President Bulger, Wilson has been charged with advancing the universitys position in the competitive markets of distance and professional education. Wilson hails from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in New York, where he led a campus-wide process of interactive learning and restructuring of the educational program. Wilsons background spans the worlds of physics, engineering science, and technology. A professor of physics, Wilson has taught entrepreneurship, informational technology, and strategy, and organized the eBusiness concentration at RPI. There, he has held such academic posts as codirector of the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, dean of undergraduate education, dean of professional and continuing education, and acting provost and dean of faculty. Wilson has served as a consultant to computing and communications firms, authored numerous scholarly articles and books, and lectured frequently. Well-respected for his academic and professional achievements, Wilson was the J. Erik Jonsson 22 Distinguished Professor of Physics at RPI.
