Garage Rehabilitation Is Underway |

The universitys rehabilitation of the garage continued to progress, as contractors began demolition work in the enclosed construction areas on the upper and lower levels of the garage on April 16. The contractors will use air hammers from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until May 11 or soon thereafter. They are also using a robotic demolition vehicle to remove a structural beam; the vehicle is operated from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. to help minimize the universitys exposure to noise. Its use will reduce the demolition time by a week. Pedestrian and traffic have been rerouted to accommodate the project. Pedestrians wishing to enter the Quinn Building from the upper level garage can use an alternative entry to the building. Alternative drop-off arrangements have been provided near the lower-level shuttle bus stop. Four permanent handicapped van parking spaces have been relocated between McCormack Hall and Wheatley Hall. Parking on the upper-level sidewalk outside of the Quinn Administration Building or on the sidewalk outside the garage is not permitted. The Office of Parking and Transportation and the Public Safety Office have been working closely with the contractors to maintain a safe and viable traffic flow. The university will keep the community updated on the projects progress until its completion. Those interested can find garage rehabilitation updates on the web at www.umb.edu, and those with specific concerns or questions can contact Stephen Chait at 7-5100 or at stephen.chait@umb.edu. |
