New Life-Long E-Mail Accounts for Students |
|
By David CesarioThe Undergraduate Registrars Office has announced that UMass Boston is now providing new web-based e-mail services for students, which are free, easy to use, and available for life. To use the new student e-mail, students need only connect to the Internet an access webmail.umb.edu. The security of this system requires that their web browser support high level encryption. We recommend Internet Explorer version 5 or higher. If they need to upgrade their web browser, they can go to the download section of Microsofts web site at www.microsoft.com. Web browsers are free, costing only the time it takes to download. For anyone who is familiar with e-mail, the new UMass Boston student webmail system will not require any training. First-time e-mail users can learn how to use webmail by attending a workshop in the student computer lab on the upper level of the Healey Library. Classes will be held in the white lab area on Wednesday, October 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and on two Fridays, October 5 and 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. The student e-mail system is a new initiative for UMass Boston that is expected to enhance communication among students, as well as with faculty, university offices, and beyond. The university will notify students regarding any university business through e-mail. If students dont intend to use the webmail address provided by the university as their regular account, they can arrange to forward messages to their preferred account. The Undergraduate Registrars Office will maintain this system, and students can always contact this office at questions@students.umb.edu or by phone at 617-287-6223 . |
