UMass Boston Authors Participate in Celebrate Dorchester Author Series
(Boston, MA) UMass Boston authors will be featured in the Celebrate Dorchester
author series which features work by writers who live in, work, or write
about Dorchester. The readings will be held throughout May in various
locations in Dorchester and is sponsored by the Dorchester Center for
Adult Education and five Dorchester branch libraries. All events are free.

Strong Cup of Coffee, 112 Stoughton Street
Lloyd Schwartz, English professor and winner of the Pulitzer Prize in
1994, will read from his third book of poetry, Cairo Traffic. The work
has received rave reviews from the New York Times and others.

Lawrence Blum, philosophy professor, will read from his latest book I'm
Not a Racist, But
The Moral Quandary of Race. In his work, he draws
upon sociological, historical, and scientific perspectives to examine
race and racism.

Julie Winch, history professor, will read from her book A Gentleman of
Color: The Life of James Forsten, a full-length biography on this civil
rights activist from nineteenth century America.
Thursday, May 30, 7:00- 8:30 p.m.
Shirley Eustis House, 33 Shirley Street
Michael Chesson, history professor, will read from his book Exile in Richmond,
in which he examines the Civil War journals of Henri Garidel, a clerk
in the Confederate Bureau of Ordinance.
