Two UMass Boston Alumni Join Board of Trustees

On March 20, the University of Massachusetts announced that Governor Jane M. Swift had appointed three new university trustees, Dennis G. Austin, Lawrence Boyle, and James J. Karam. All three appointees received their undergraduate degrees from UMass campuses, and Austin and Boyle are alumni of UMass Boston.

Austin is the director of state government relations for Raytheon Company, where he is responsible for communicating the company’s priorities to local, county, and state government officials. He earned his law degree at Suffolk University Law School and is a resident of Duxbury.

Boyle is the senior partner of the Morrison, Mahoney, and Miller law firm in Boston and is a member of the management committee of his law firm. He too is a graduate of Suffolk Law School and currently lives in Milton.

Karam, a graduate of UMass Dartmouth, is the president of First Bristol Corporations in Fall River.

The newly named trustees will replace former trustees Daniel E. Bogan, Robert S. Karam, and Peter K. Lewenberg. The 22-member board includes five student members who are elected by fellow students at the universities.
