The first concrete pour for the 16-inch foundation base of the Integrated Sciences Complex took place on Wednesday, September 14. Crews placed 477 cubic yards — or more than 40 truckloads — of concrete.
The concrete was poured over reinforcing steel to form the bottom slab of the corner of the ISC’s north wing. On the far eastern corner of the ISC, work continues on formwork and concrete placement for foundation pile caps and grade beams.
Crews continue to install reinforcing steel/rebar and pipes for venting and continue to excavate at the service and supply tunnel construction area. Ground improvement work is taking place to reinforce the soil under future utility, sidewalk, and other hardscape areas.
Roof Work at Wheatley Hall
A trailer is parked in the student-only South Lot adjacent to Wheatley as a first step while crews prepare for construction on the new Wheatley Hall roof and waterproofing project. Early activities next week include off-hour drilling in the stairwells for the new drainage system, some masonry demolition in the sixth floor light wells, and roof examination on the sixth floor roof.
A monitor was recently mounted on a column in the Wheatley lobby. It will display energy savings resulting from the recently installed photovoltaic solar panel system located on the lower fourth floor roof, after the new system is fully connected to NSTAR’s grid later this fall.
