Most of the events listed below are free and open to the public, but some are ticketed events. Please read the description for each and if applicable click on the link for more details. Tuesday, September 4 - Thursday, September 13: Opening Week Events
The Office of Student Activities has a lot planned for the first few weeks of classes - comedy shows, movies, nights out on the town, and lots of free food! Stop by one of the Chancellor's "WOW's" on Tuesday September 4 at 8am or 4pm to pick up a free day planner with all events listed inside. Or, stop by one of the many information kiosks to learn more about details for the week and other things happening on campus.
Thursday, September 13: Fall Convocation
The day begins with the annual faculty/staff breakfast at 8:30am, followed by the Chancellor's address to the university community. The key note speaker will be announced shortly. Ballroom, 8:30am. Wednesday, October 3: "A Conversation About College Affordability"
Under Secretary, U.S. Department of Education Dr. Kanter will discuss the Obama Administration's recent proposal to make college more affordable and accessible and will lead a Q & A session . Campus Center, Alumni Lounge, 10:00am. To attend please respond to email@example.com
Thursday, October 11: Annual Hall of Fame Banquet
Join Charlie Titus, the Vice Chancellor for Athletics, Recreation, Special Programs and Projects induct this year's recipients into the UMass Boston Athletics Hall of Fame. The list of this year's inductees are listed on the Athletics website. Ticket prices are $85 and include hors d'oeuvres and dinner. For more information visit UMass Boston Athletics.
Saturday, October 13: Open House
Make yourself at home and take a closer look at a great university. Details for the day can be found here. Event begins at 8:30am and pre-registration is encouraged.
Wednesday, October 24: IDEAS Boston
IDEAS Boston is a unique event where some of the region’s leading thinkers from every imaginable sector push boundaries and share their latest big ideas to create fertile ground for innovation. The event is moderated by Tom Ashbrook, host of NPR’s On Point on WBUR, and we have an amazing lineup of 14 speakers. Thursday, November 15: Annual Years of Service Awards
The Chancellor’s Years of Service Celebration recognizes our faculty and staff who have reached a critical career milestone in their tenure at UMass Boston. This celebration honors those individuals with 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and desserts during the program. RSVP to Human Resources. Ballroom, 2pm.
Tuesday, November 27: A Celebration of Life Orville Wright
You are cordially invited to join the Performing Arts Department and the University of Massachusetts Boston community as we pay tribute to Orville Wright and honor the enormous impact he made through his talent, generous spirit, and dedication to our community. 3:00pm, Campus Center Alumni Lounge.
Tuesday, December 4: Distinguished Faculty Lecture: "Building the University of Massachusetts Boston: Pursuit of Excellence"
This annual event celebrates the four faculty award winners from commencement. Please join Chancellor Motley at this lecture featuring the Distinguished Teaching, Distinguished Service and Distinguished Scholarship award winners from the 2012 commencement. The winners of these awards are Stephanie Hartwell, Joan Liem, John Tobin and Rachel Rubin. Reception to follow. 3:00pm, Campus Center, Alumni Lounge.
Wednesday, December 19: Winter Wonderland
Enjoy festive music and food with Chancellor Motley and your colleagues! Skating at the Clark Rink 10am-11am, and food and activities in the ballroom from 2pm-3:30pm. The annual snow person competition is back, and in keeping with tradition we're also bringing back the gingerbread house "building" competition.
