At its meeting on December 6, 2011 the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education gave its approval for a new PhD program in Global Governance and Human Security to be offered by the University of Massachusetts Boston. The interdisciplinary program will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address a number of contemporary global concerns, including economic welfare and human development, ecological sustainability, public health, education, human rights, and political freedom—and on the interrelationships among them.
Housed within the Department of Conflict Resolution, Human Security, and Global Governance at the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies, the program is a collaborative effort of the McCormack Graduate School, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Science and Mathematics, and the College of Management.
The newly approved program has begun accepting applications and expects to welcome its first cohort of students in September 2012.
