CNHS Receives Monmouth University’s “Hawk Hug” for Sandy Relief Efforts

CNHS Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts

Only days after College of Nursing and Health Sciences Dean Anahid Kulwicki arrived at the University of Massachusetts Boston, disaster struck the East Coast. Hurricane Sandy ravished central and northeastern coastal communities and help was needed urgently. Without hesitation, Dean Kulwicki fully supported the CNHS student leaders who were eager to be of assistance to those who were suffering.

With Dean Kulwicki's endorsement and faculty member Adrienne Wald's leadership, a collaborative effort to organize shipments of needed items was arranged. Students, led by nursing student Leah Ottenstein, made a delivery of goods donated by CNHS staff, faculty, and students to Monmouth University in New Jersey last week. They were gratefully welcomed by Dean Janet Mahoney (School of Nursing and Health Studies), faculty, and students. In the coming weeks, the students will solicit financial contributions to continue their assistance.

In recognition for the college's efforts, Monmouth University President Paul Gaffney II gave UMass Boston the "Hawk Hug of the Week."
