Commonwealth Diversity Fellows Program
May 18, 2012
Cuf Ferguson, CDFP Coordinator
The College of Public and Community Service signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to establish and implement the first ever Commonwealth Diversity Fellows Program (CDFP) that is linked to the eight Secretariat Offices. It is a historic undertaking. Student interns will have an opportunity to work in all eight Secretariats. In partnership with the College of Public and Community Service are: the Office of Access and Opportunity and the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity (representing the Executive Branch of the Commonnwealth of Massachusetts); and Commonwealth Compact. Implementation of the Commonwealth Diversity Fellows Program is scheduled to begin Spring 2013.
The purpose of CDFP is to provide individuals a first-hand, high level experience with the workings of state government through engagement in an internship experience of such duration and intensity that it enhances the education of the participant and fulfills a public service objective. In year one, participation in CDFP will be restricted to students, who have completed their freshman year and who otherwise meet the Program's participation criteria, and are in good academic standing with the College of Public and Community Service. In year two, participation in CDFP will be made available to both CPCS students and students enrolled in any of the graduate programs of the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Public Policy at UMass Boston and who otherwise meet the Program's participation criteria. In year three and beyond, participation in CDFP will be made available to CPCS students, McCormack Graduate School students, and students of any College or University that is a signatory of Commonwealth Compact and who have completed their freshman year and who otherwise meet the Program's participation criteria.
