Gearing Up for the 2012 Return of Kenya Heart and Sole
December 09, 2011
CNHS
This June, a College of Nursing and Health Sciences medical team will once again make the yearly trip to Kenya to be a part of the Kenya Heart and Sole: The Afya Njema Project. Given the rise of cardiometabolic disease and pain in Sub-Saharan Africa, the project focuses on attacking this crisis in a manner uniquely tailored to the needs of its Kenyan patients. Since its inception in 2008, Kenya Heart and Sole features collaboration between students and faculty members from the UMass Boston College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Tumutumu Hospital School of Nursing, Kijabe Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Nairobi School of Nursing Sciences, along with the non-profit organization, Health for Nations.
CNHS students partner with Kenyan nursing students to conduct screenings and research, in addition to taking part in medical camps, in an effort to provide care and education to the Kenyan people.
Applications for the program are due December 19th. For application forms and additional information about the project, including student reflections and project narratives from past trips, visit the Kenya Heart and Sole website.
