Professor of Economics and Department Chair Julie Nelson's work was recently discussed on NPR's Marketplace Money. Commentator Helaine Olen points to Professor Nelson's INET working paper titled "Are Women Really More Risk-Averse than Men?" which rejects the existence of significant gender differences in risk-taking. As Olen states, drawing on Professor Nelson's work, we "are, it seems, conditioned to believe that women are more risk averse than men, so much that we see evidence of it where little exists."
