In a quiet week for the Beacons, the UMass Boston lacrosse team (1-2) dropped their only game to Emmanuel College. Saturday’s scheduled game against Thomas College was postponed due to snow. The Beacons travel to Nichols College on Tuesday for a nonconference game.
The Las Vegas Wranglers, an affiliate of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes, signed senior defenseman Rob Florentino of West Roxbury. He finished his career at UMass Boston with the third-most points amongst defensemen in school history with 64. He enjoyed a career season in 2012, recording 28 points with 7 goals and 21 assists. Florentino made his professional debut on Wednesday.
Freshman Olivia Murphy of Canton has been named the ECAC Division III New England Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year. She was also named to the Little East Conference All-Defensive Team and the All-Rookie Team. Murphy averaged 14.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game this season for the Beacons.
