UMass Boston Hosts Events & Volunteer Opportunities in Honor of 9/11

UMass Boston joins the 9/11 Tribute Movement to remember September 11th through several days of reflection and service.

Listed below are several opportunities to honor the memory of that day by serving the communities of Boston and surrounding areas. Email oslce@umb.edu to register. 

September 8

On Campus Service Day – Bikes Not Bombs Come help increase global sustainability by helping assemble and recycle bicycles for Bikes Not Bombs. This social justice organization provides economic relief and community development. For more information contact community.engagement@umb.edu.

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

September 9

Volunteer Opportunity: Salvation Army Enhance The Salvation Army's Paige Farley-Hackel 9/11 Memorial Park by planting flowers and shrubs.
Location:  32 Wales Street, Dorchester, MA 02124
Time: 9-11 a.m.

Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil
Join us as we reflect on the strength of our nation and the tragedy that unified America
Location: Campus Center Terrace
Time: 1-2 p.m.

September 10

Volunteer Opportunity: International Medical Equipment Collaborative (IMEC) A 9/11 Tribute: Help Bring Medical Equipment to Impoverished Countries
Location: North Andover, MA 01845
Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

September 11

Volunteer Opportunity: Plant 3,000 Flags in Public Garden Location: Boston Public Gardens
Time: 5:30 – 7 a.m. or 7:30-9 a.m.

Donate Blood with the American Red Cross at Fenway
Location: Fenway Park
Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Volunteer Opportunity: Cradles 2 Crayons
Volunteers will be helping to unload donations from trucks for sorting in the warehouse
Location: Brighton, MA
Time: 2-5 p.m.

September 13

MassBike Volunteers help MassBike to send out our monthly membership renewal reminders, prepare membership packets, and help out with other activities as they come up.
Location: 71 Milk Street, Suite 33, Boston
Time: 5-8 p.m.

September 14

UMass Boston Volunteer Fair Continuing service in honor of 9/11all year
Campus Center Terrace
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Look for opportunities each day to fill out a pledge card and show how you will remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11.
