UMass Boston Women’s Volleyball Captures Second Consecutive LEC Championship

The UMass Boston women’s volleyball team defeated Keene State College, 3-1, to capture the 2010 Little East Conference Championship on Saturday, November 6 in the Clark Athletic Center.
This is the Beacons’ second consecutive LEC Championship—the first time this has happened in school history.
The team, which received 10 votes in the most recent Division III American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll, improved to 27-4 overall with this win, and extended their home winning streak to 29 matches.
The Beacons will now advance to the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Tournament, playing Maine Maritime Academy in the regionals on Friday, November 12 at 3 p.m. at Springfield College's Blake Arena.
- If the Beacons win Friday, they will play in the semi-finals at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, in the Blake Arena.
- If they win in the semifinals, the Beacons will play in the final at 4 p.m., Sunday, in the Blake Arena.

Shannon Thompson was named the LEC tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after producing a 14 kill and 14 dig performance in the championship game. Her final kill in the win brought her to 421 kills on the season, a new single-season high for the sophomore who now has 841 kills in her career to rank fourth all-time.
