Joyce Foster is the daughter of Donald Smith, who was born in North Andover in 1897, went to work in the mill at age 14, and rose through music to spend 50 years on the piano faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music. Retired from a career in teaching and training, Joyce serves on several community boards in her Fenway neighborhood. She is President of the oldest nonprofit community newspaper in Boston, and has been on the Northeastern University Community Task Force since its inception in 2005.
