OLLI Scholar Theresa Sommers holds a BA in International Relations from Wellesley College in and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Boston University. Her public health experience includes co-authoring an economic impact study of the SARS outbreak at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland; working as a research assistant on tobacco control policy at the Thai Health Promotion Foundation in Bangkok, Thailand; and, most recently, as a health scientist in the Division of Global Migration and Quarantine at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. She is currently a PhD candidate in Global Governance and Human Security at UMass Boston, where her research interests include the relationship between armed conflict and infectious disease, neglected tropical diseases, global health governance, and the social determinants of health and health equity.
