Day Trips Spring 2013

  • A Ramble through Concord

    Day: Tuesday
    Time: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
    Dates: April 30, 2013
    Location: Concord, MA (chartered bus will leave from UMass Boston, Campus Center at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 5-5:30 p.m.)
    Facilitator: N/A
    Description: Our ramble through the historic town of Concord will begin at the Concord Museum where we’ll explore thirteen historical and deco art galleries and period rooms; and view the film "Exploring Concord. “ On display is the lantern from Paul Revere's famous ride; contents from Ralph Waldo Emerson's study (1882), and collections from Henry David Thoreau's possessions from Walden Pond. Our next stop will be Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House, home of the Alcotts from 1858 to 1877. The house is most noted for being where Louisa wrote and set her beloved classic, Little Women, in 1868 at a "shelf desk" her father built especially for her. Lunch will be reserved at the historic Colonial Inn Restaurant.

  • Mystic Seaport

    Location: Mystic, CT (chartered bus will leave from UMass Boston, Campus Center at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 5-5:30 p.m.)
    Facilitator: N/A
    Description: Mystic Seaport is the nation's leading maritime museum. We’ll discover American maritime history first-hand as we climb aboard tall ships, stroll through a 19th-century coastal village of 50 historic houses, shops and galleries, explore exhilarating exhibits, and watch a working preservation shipyard in action. A 1908 Steamboat (Sabino) offers a one-half hour excursion on the Mystic River for an additional fee.
