Eastern Europe to the Black Sea

Ancient Kingdoms: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam
Day: Time: Dates: November 3-21, 2013, 19 days Location: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam Facilitator: Trip Leader is Wichian Rojanawon Description: Visit Thailand and three Southeast Asian countries-- Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, once called Indochina by French colonists. With a diverse cultural inheritance; a mixture of Hindu and Buddhist religions; and the romantic remnants of French Colonial architecture, Thailand and Indochina are the perfect setting for a thrilling adventure. We delve into the distant past. You’ll explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Bangkok, Luang Prabang, and Angkor Wat, discover the lost kingdoms of the Khmer, the Lao, and the Vietnamese, and tour some of Southeast Asia’s most impressive temples and palaces. In addition to a local tour guide, you will be accompanied by Wichian Rojanawon, OLLI Director, who is a native of Thailand and three-time traveler to Vietnam. In the Fall 2013, Wichian will teach a 6-week course about the history and culture of these four countries and conduct a trip orientation to prepare travelers for the trip. Bienvenidos a Cuba (Welcome to Cuba)

The people of Cuba are the island’s greatest asset. They are friendly, welcoming, and willing to share their history and culture with us as we participate in educational exchanges. OLLI had an enjoyable trip with 26 members this past January and we want to offer it again to those who didn’t have a chance to go this year. Enrichment Voyages: Iron & Ice

Facilitator: N/A Description: Embark on an exciting journey through Northern Europe and Iceland on the Iron and Ice Enrichment Voyage from May 18 to June 15, 2014. The unique itinerary features incredible and contrasting destinations, including St. Petersburg, Russia, Stockholm, Sweden, Tallin, Estonia, three ports in Iceland, and a trek through the Isle of Man. Enrichment Voyages offer a variety of field excursions, abundant educational programming, and a vibrant shipboard community of scholars and vacationers alike. Participants of all ages are encouraged. Don’t miss the chance to explore amazing cultures once hidden behind the Iron Curtain as well as some of the world’s most pristine areas of wilderness. OLLI at UMass Boston joins other lifelong learning programs in this intergenerational travel organized by the Institute for Shipboard Education. You may sign up for only one segment or two segments.
