We Recommend Public Transportation

We encourage you to take public transportation to UMass Boston. Located less than 1 mile from the JFK/UMass Station on the MBTA Red Line, UMass Boston is easily accessible by public transit.

Your options include:

SUBWAY: Take the MBTA Red Line or commuter rail train to JFK/UMass.

BUS: Take an MBTA bus:

  • Route 8 buses run daily from Kenmore Square to campus between 5:15 am and 12:30 am.
  • Route 16 buses run from Forest Hills, Monday through Friday, during rush hour.

SHUTTLE BUS: Free shuttle buses run regularly between the MBTA station and campus, according to the schedules below. The buses follow two routes:

  • The No. 1 runs non-stop from JFK/UMass Station to the Campus Center.
  • The No. 2 bus stops at the Quinn Administration Building, Campus Center, and JFK Library.
Weekday Bus Schedule:

Monday-Thursday - No. 1 Bus

6:40 am-9:30 pm: every 3-6 minutes
9:30 pm-11:30 pm: every 12 minutes

Friday - No. 1 Bus

6:40 am-6:40 pm: every 3-6 minutes
6:40 pm-10:18 pm: every 12 minutes

Monday-Friday - No. 2 Bus

6:40 am-5:45 pm: every 20 minutes

 

Weekend Bus Schedule:

Saturday - No. 2 Bus Only

7:30 am-7:00 pm: every 20 minutes

Sunday - No. 2 Bus Only

8:00 am-8:30 pm: every 20 minutes
