It is unique in being the only public University in Massachusetts to sign the international Tallories Declaration committing to environmental sustainability in all campus operations and academics. The campus' recycling and sustainability program, UMBe Green encompasses 4 areas in moving towards sustainability: Recycling Education, Sustainability and Practice. UMass Boston sustainability efforts have been recently awarded the Commonwealth of MA "University Sustainability Award"
In 2007, UMass Boston became the only public university in Boston to sign and be part of the Leadership Circle of the American College and University President's Climate Change Commitment. www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org/html/signatories.php.
