Scholarships for First-Years

Have questions about scholarships? Schedule a one-on-one appointment with us.

Students are automatically considered for UMass Boston's merit scholarship aid based on their admissions application. Undergraduate Admissions will notify recipients at the time of acceptance if they have been selected for one of these scholarships.

This Scholarship Grid is for students who apply as test optional. For students who choose to submit standardized test scores please see the grid further below.

At UMass Boston, we allow students to apply as test optional. We understand that some students do not always feel that standardized test scores are the best indicator of their academic ability or promise. For these reasons, we are pleased to provide scholarship range options to test-optional students.

The grids below are an estimate based on historical information and standards may change based on the make-up of the applicant pool.

  • “GPA” here is based on a cumulative recalculation of all college prep academic courses and considers weighting for honors, AP, and IB courses on a 4.0 scale in accordance with the standards outlined by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.
  • The specific number and amounts of scholarships offered each year are based on available funding. Scholarship offers and award amounts will be determined by a holistic review of the application for admission including a thorough evaluation of the rigor of coursework, high school GPA, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, and a demonstrated commitment to leadership, community service, and/or employment.
  • A change in residency may reduce or otherwise impact your scholarship.

Appealing a Scholarship Decision

If you are a first-year student who has already been admitted to the university and would like to submit an appeal for funding consideration you can do so here. You will use your Beacon Gateway log-in information to access this form.

We will begin reviewing scholarship appeals in March and students can expect to hear back shortly after that.

Please keep in mind students must present a compelling case beyond what is already listed in their admission application for consideration. We have a record number of strong applicants this admission cycle so only a limited number of appeals will be made new offers.
