Community Service Opportunities

A particular emphasis on community service opportunities exists in the Federal Work-Study Program, and UMass Boston offers a wide variety of positions to meet this need. Please consider using your FWS eligibility at one of the over two dozen community agencies that have contracted with Student Employment Services to offer community service FWS jobs to UMass Boston students. Community service employers are located throughout Dorchester and Boston area and have included:

  • Bird Street Community Center
  • The Log School Settlement House
  • Cambridgeport Children's Center
  • Museum of Fine Arts
  • Dorchester House Multi Service Center
  • MATCH Charter School
  • Haitian Multi-Service Center

To find out what community service opportunities are available this year, review the listings on MONSTERTRAK and set your search to Off-Campus (Work-Study) jobs.

America Reads

UMass Boston is also an active participant in the America Reads Challenge. America Reads is a national program aimed at meeting the goal of helping every child to read by the third grade. UMass Boston has partnerships with three area organizations to provide opportunities for our students to work as reading tutors and in family literacy programs.
