Employer's Responsibilities

Employers are responsible for notifying SES of any changes to a student's employment status.

Employers must adhere to all practices outlined in the Employers Information Section, and contact SES with any questions about policies.

Employers are responsible for monitoring the status of student employees and immediately terminating any student who is no longer enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Employers must ensure that students are not working during times in which they are scheduled to be in class.  A work schedule should be agreed upon each semester by the student and employer which is not in conflict with the student's class schedule.

By submitting time sheets with your signature, you are verifying the time reported is correct.

Your department is responsible for 100% of all earnings that exceed a student's FWS award.

Employers are required to maintain adequate supervision of students with regard to attendance and quality of job performance.  SES encourages employers to evaluate students at the end of each semester or summer.

Departments that participate in the FWS program must keep Time Sheets at the department for 3 years after the end of a fiscal year.

Employers are required to review the Student Employment Handbook section.

In order for the University to participate in the Federal Work Study Program, Student Employment Services is responsible for keeping the program in compliance with federal regulations.  As a result, at various times throughout the year we may contact you with updates to policies, inform you that students’ earnings are approaching their FWS awards, and request time sheets to provide to external and internal auditors.
