Financial Aid Services regularly uses the campus email
system to communicate with students. Your UMass Boston e-mail address is considered your official electronic address. Please check your e-mail regularly.
- You will be notified via email when there has been a change to your financial aid award. You can review your financial aid awards and status on WISER.
-
Financial aid information will be mailed to the address
you list with the Univeristy. Be sure to keep your mailing address
current by using
WISER.
-
Only status reports may be given over the phone: application
status, verification status, dependency status, etc.
-
Forms and documents submitted to FAS may require two
to three weeks processing time: this includes award notification letters, verification
documents, certification statements, applications for summer assistance,
appeals and information requests by outside agencies; e.g. Department
of Transitional Assistance, Massachusetts Rehab.
-
Information released to agencies outside the University
requires your written and signed consent. This includes information
released to your parents and spouse, as well as for employment verification.
-
Financial aid funds are not available to you before
the semester begins; be prepared to pay for books and living expenses
for approximately six weeks or longer.
-
If you default on student loans, you will be ineligible
for additional financial aid. If the default occurred after aid was
awarded, all aid will be cancelled immediately. Contact our office for
assistance. A default status jeopardizes your credit rating.
-
Your financial aid file must be complete before you
are awarded financial aid. Please note, however, that additional documentation
may be requested at any time during the award year.
-
All aid awarded is based on the funds that are available.
-
If you receive any form of aid from sources other
than Financial Aid Services, your aid may be adjusted. Contact our office to determine the impact of outside awards. Examples of other sources of
aid include scholarships, Veteran's Benefits, employee reimbursement
and tuition waivers (Massachusetts Rehab, veteran's state employee, graduate
assistantships).
-
At the end of the add/drop period each semester, your
enrollment status and eligibility for aid will be based on the number of credits
for which you are officially registered. If you register
late for classes, the only aid you may receive for the additional
credits will be loans.
-
Adjustments to your enrollment after the official
add/drop period may affect your financial aid award. Speak with your
Financial Aid Counselor before you change your enrollment status and/or
withdraw from the University. You must also meet with your Academic
Advising Counselor prior to withdrawing from the university.
-
If you are receiving federal and/or state financial
assistance and you withdraw from the University on or before completing
60% of the semester, your financial aid award will be recalculated
according to the percentage of the semester you have completed. Some
portion of your financial aid award may need to be returned.
-
Your financial aid will be adjusted if your aid exceeds
your eligibility. If your aid needs to be reduced, FWS is generally
reduced first, then loans, then grants.
