Your Student Account and Paying Your Bill
Your Account Statement
Every UMass Boston student will receive a bill or statement of account from the Bursar's Office. Whether you utilize financial aid or pay out of your pocket, it is your responsibility to pay your bill in a timely fashion. Read your statement carefully to ensure it is correct. Pay special attention to the number of credits for which you are registered and are reflected on the bill.
Be sure to check that all the aid you accepted has been credited to your account. Pay your bill by the printed due date if there is a balance due. If the number of credits on your bill is incorrect, contact the Registrar's Office.
For billing information, visit the Bursar's Office web site.
- If you qualify for tuition waiver programs like the National Guard or Senior Citizen Waivers, complete the paperwork promptly. Contact the Bursar's Office for further information.
- If you are paying the balance of your bill with proceeds from a Federal Pell Grant, SEOG, Mass Grant, Federal Perkins Loan or Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan, a pending credit will be sent to the Bursar's Office once your financial aid file is complete and up-to-date.
- Federal Work-Study earnings are paid directly to you and are not credited to your bill, nor may they be used as clearance against any amount owed to the University.
- Financial aid funds are not always available to the University before the semester begins. You should be prepared to pay for books and living expenses for approximately six weeks or longer.
- Categorical tuition waivers are credited to your bill by the Bursar's Office after the add/drop period.
- Often the statement of account you receive may be a request for additional payments over and above your aid. Pay the amount you owe before the due date to avoid late fees, negative service indicator, and loss of financial aid. UMass Boston policy requires you to pay the entire balance on your bill by the due date or your registration will be cancelled.
- If you have a credit balance on your bill, you will receive a refund check approximately after the semester begins. The Bursar's Office will notify you via email of the date the check will be available for you to pick up at their office.
- Contact the Bursar's Office for information about the University' Academic Management Service (AMS) plan, which allows you to pay tuition and fee expenses via a payment plan over a period of months.
- Undergraduate students who have not yet completed their first degree and have completed 139 credits at UMass Boston will be billed at the out-of-state tuition rate. Financial aid will, however, be based on the in-state tuition rate.
- Pay your bill by the due date to avoid late payment fees being charged by the Bursar's Office.
